Aunque aún no ha comenzado la producción, parece que una audiencia completamente nueva tendrá la oportunidad de experimentar la emoción de infiltrarse en una prisión con convictos muy peligrosos, solo para planear una fuga con el preso más ingenioso de todos los tiempos.
El programa original, creado por Paul Scheuring, se emitió durante cinco temporadas en Fox, desde 2005 hasta 2009, y fue seguido por un breve regreso en 2017. «Prison Break» contaba la historia de Michael Scofield, un ingeniero estructural que decide intentar lo imposible cuando su hermano, Lincoln Burrows, es condenado por un crimen que dice no haber cometido y es enviado al corredor de la muerte en la Penitenciaría Estatal de Fox River. Scofield logra ser encarcelado en el mismo lugar y elabora un plan para escapar junto a Lincoln. El problema es que otros presos se enteran del plan y deciden unirse a la fiesta.

In an interview with Deadline, one of the original executive producers of the show, Marty Adelstein, shared an update about the Prison Break reboot. While Adelstein doesn’t go into the details of the production, he was kind enough to say if the show was still a reality in the Hulu schedule: «It’s going really well. The first script was really, really well done. They’ve given notes and it looks like it’s on its way.» Elgin James (The Outlaws, Mayans MC) is the filmmaker writing the script for Hulu’s Prison Break reimagining.

A Prison Break reboot was only a matter of time. The original run was critically acclaimed and performed very well alongside other prominent shows of the mid-2000s, like 24, Lost, and House. Prison Break was one of the shows that capitalized on an era before streaming, when the biggest shows were still all on network TV. With a clever plot, and a story that kept fans guessing from week to week, Prison Break’s popularity was apparent from the start.

Other performers included Sarah Wayne Callies, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, Robin Tunney, Wade Williams, Peter Stormare, William Fichtner, and Paul Adelstein, among others. It has not been confirmed if any of them will return to the reboot in some way or form, although if Hulu wants to use the nostalgia factor to increase ratings, it may be possible they will try to coax back some old faces in even just a small role.
