Carrie’s Clickety-Clacks and Harry’s Health Scare: A «And Just Like That…» Recap

Well, folks, they finally did it. They gave poor Harry (Evan Handler) prostate cancer. We all saw the signs way back in season one when Charlotte (Kristin Davis) was willing to ditch his colonoscopy for a fancy dinner. Now, I’m not saying the writers are incapable of tackling mature themes with nuance – navigating illness as you age could be compelling – but let’s be honest, my expectations are low.

This storyline is already highlighting Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) less-than-stellar friend qualities. She actually utters the immortal line, «What does that have to do with me?» when discussing Harry’s diagnosis. Parker has been defending the character, pointing out the double standard applied to female antiheroes compared to their male counterparts. Fair point, but it doesn’t excuse Carrie’s callous behavior.

Meanwhile, Carrie’s got her own drama brewing with a downstairs neighbor who dares to complain about the clacking of her designer heels. Apparently, she’s become a landlord? It’s unclear if this is supposed to be a new career path for our fashionista columnist. The neighbor turns out to be Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake), a famous biographer, which sparks Miranda’s inner fangirl and sets the stage for some predictable romantic tension.

Back at the Wexlers, Lisa and Herbert are bickering over communication issues – classic married life, am I right? Meanwhile, Seema is struggling to secure a loan for her new business venture, proving that even savvy entrepreneurs hit roadblocks. It’s a nice reminder that success isn’t always glamorous.

Carrie tries to make peace with Duncan through the power of welcome baskets (a very Carrie move), but he retaliates with an Amazon-delivered pair of slippers and demands absolute silence during his daytime writing hours. This guy is shaping up to be quite the antagonist.

The episode culminates in a glamping trip gone wrong, complete with mosquito bites, communication breakdowns, and Charlotte’s struggle to keep Harry’s diagnosis secret. There’s a glimmer of hope in Lisa’s intuitive support for her friend, but the overall mood remains tense.

My Two Cents (with a touch of irony):

The writers seem determined to paint Carrie as the clueless queen bee, oblivious to everyone else’s struggles while obsessing over shoes and potential love interests. It’s getting tiresome, honestly. The whole Duncan storyline feels forced, and I can already smell the predictable drama brewing.

On the plus side, Lisa’s quiet strength and empathy shine through, offering a welcome contrast to Carrie’s self-absorption. And let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good glamping disaster?

Overall, this episode is a mixed bag: entertaining in parts, but ultimately predictable and frustrating. Let’s hope the writers find a way to give Carrie some depth beyond her designer heels and penchant for romantic entanglements.
